Abstract

A multi-stage process is described for treating complex solns. contg. non-ferrous metals esp. Zn and Cu using existing plants e.g. mixing/decantation units and/or exchangers and a new type of cation exchange liq. and chelate former. The cation exchange liq. has, for all amine-forming non-ferrous metal cations, a capacity significantly different from zero and different fixing capacities for different cations. There is a large degree flexibility in the choice of starting materials. No other operating materials are required all the chemical prods. are in closed circuits. Only a corresponding pptg. agent e.g. lime or soda to ppte Zn from the residual aq. soln. is necessary since it is operated in closed circuit fewer pollution problems arise. Automatic operation is possible.
