Abstract
This process consists in treating household rubbish with organic materials in order to obtain, by fermentation, a gaseous mixture containing methane. The treatment is carried out in four cells (A, B, C, D) offset vertically in relation to one another, each cell communicating with a neighbouring cell via a conduit (12) in which are fitted two valves (13) separated by a filter (17). Homogenisation and oxygenation of the sludge takes place in cell (A) which is placed in an anaerobic condition before the sludge is transferred to cell (B). In cell (B) a prefermentation producing carbon dioxide and an initiation of the methane fermentation are carried out. An enrichment of the gaseous product in methane takes place in cell (C) and is further improved in cell (D). The gas spaces of cells (B), (C) and (D) are in communication via conduits (18), and the sludge from cell (D) is reinjected into cell (A).
