Abstract
Sprocket assembly for the starting motor of an internal combustión engine, comprising a shaft which, in use, is rotated by the starter motor, a sleeve not rotatably mounted on the shaft and provided with an external helical shape, a washer encircling the shaft and located between one end of said sleeve and a stirrup provided on the shaft, an annulus provided with an internal helical shape that fits the external helical shape of the sleeve, whereby relative rotation of the sleeve and the annulus results in a relative axial movement of both elements, a support interconnecting the annulus and a pinion supported by said shaft, a return spring of the pinion acting between the washer and the annulus driving the latter in the axial with respect to the sleeve, a damper ring that surrounds the shaft at the end of the sleeve remote from said washer, and a damper spring acting in said cushion ring and another stirrup arranged on the shaft, said cushion ring abutting on a third stirrup of the shaft and the sleeve being shorter than the spacing between the washer and the damper ring when the former engages the first stirrup mentioned and the second is coupled to the third stirrup, so that the washer can rotate freely with respect to the shaft, since the load of the damper spring is accepted by the third stirrup and not by the first stirrup mentioned through the washer and the sleeve.
