Abstract
A process for preparing a granular pigment concentrate, characterized by the steps of (a) forming an aqueous dispersion containing from 20 to 55% pigment; (b) mixing the aqueous dispersion with a 5 to 35% solution of a crumbly dispersion resin in an organic solvent therefor, the resin being selected from the group consisting of low molecular weight hydrocarbon resins and rosin esters, and having a softening temperature scale of about 70ºC, to about 195ºC .; (c) sweeping the pigment by passing it from the aqueous phase to the resin phase; (d) recovering the pigment-resin phase; (e) mixing the resin and pigment with 30 to 65% of a low molecular weight ethylene glycol copolyester, at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol containing 4 to 10 carbon atoms, and at least one difunctional dicarboxylic acid or its derivative of ester, said copolyester having a melting temperature scale of about 140ºC. at approximately 200ºC. and mixing at a temperature above the melting point of the copolyester; and (f) recovering the polymerizable pigment concentrate.
