Abstract

A method of making spheroidal alumina particles comprising (a) mixing a powdered alumina, a strong acid aluminum salt, a water soluble surfactant, and a sufficient amount of water to produce an extrusible mixture; (b) stirring or kneading the mixture for a short period of time until the decreasing viscosity of the mixture stabilizes, and extruding the mixture; (c) segmenting and rounding the extruded product under the centrifugal influence of a rotating drum; and (d) drying and calcining the resulting spheroidal product.
