Abstract

A process for preparing improved antacid particles of the type in which the antacid material is selected from the group consisting of: aluminum hydroxide, aluminum hydroxycarbonate, aluminum and magnesium glycinate, calcium carbonate, aluminum dihydroxy-aminoacetate, magnesium aluminate, magnesium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium oxide and magnesium trisilicate, the improvement of which consists of antacid particles ranging in size from 0.5 to 300 microns and having on them a non-toxic, inert and substantially insoluble oil coating in water, said oil being selected from the group consisting of: almond oil, coconut oil, corn oil, cottonseed oil, refined linseed oil, light liquid petrolatum, heavy liquid petrolatum, olein, Persian oil, sesame oil, soybean oil, safflower oil, the proportion of oil coating on said p being included antacid articles between 1:50 and 1: 1000 by weight of oil to antacid; method comprising dispersing said antacid particles in a non-polar, non-aqueous, volatile solvent for fats in which said oil dissolves, and spray drying the dispersion formed to obtain dry antacid particles substantially coated with said oil.
