Abstract

A process for preparing improved antacid particles, in which the antacid material is selected from the group consisting of: aluminum hydroxide, aluminum hydroxycarbonate, aluminum and magnesium glycinate, calcium carbonate, aluminum dihydroxy-aminoacetate, magnesium aluminate, carbonate magnesium, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium oxide, and magnesium trisilicate; the improvement of which consists of antacid particles that have a size between 0.5 and 300 microns and that have on them a coating of a non-toxic, inert oil, and substantially insoluble in water, said oil being selected from the group consisting of: almond oil, coconut oil, corn oil, cottonseed oil, refined linseed oil, light liquid petrolatum, heavy liquid petrolatum, olein, olive oil, palm oil, peanut oil, Persian oil, sesame oil, oil soybean, and safflower oil, the ratio of oil coating on said antacid particles being comprised between 1:50 and 1: 1000 by weight of oil to antacid; procedure comprising dispersing an electronegatively charged powder in said oil and intimately contacting this same dispersion with said antacid and vigorously stirring to obtain a mixture of all the materials present.
