Abstract

Process for preparing polyisocyanate compositions, characterized in that, it comprises mixing (a) from 30 to 85% by weight of a mixture of methylene bridged polyphenylpolysisocyanates containing from 30 to 65% by weight of diphenylmethanedylcyanates, the remainder being polyphenylpolysisocyanates with methylene bridges of superior functionality together with by-products formed in the production of such polyisocyanates by phosgenation; (B) from 5 to 70% by weight of a reaction product of a molar ratio of diphenylmethanediisocyanate with 0.005 to 0.6 molar ratios of an alkylene or polyoxyalkylene diol; and (C) from 0 to 50% of a diphenylmethanediisocyanate or a mixture of isomers thereof, the proportions of (A), (B) and (C) being such that the total amount of diphenylmethanediisocyanate present in the composition, including the pre -reacted with the diol, it comprises from 55 to 90% by weight of the composition.
