Abstract
Amoxidation method, to prepare nitriles from m- and p-xylene, characterized in that it comprises reacting said xylene and ammonia at a temperature of about 375ºC to about 500ºC and in the presence of added oxygen, the molar ratio of ammonia being xylene from about 2.0: 1 to about 3: 1, the molar ratio of oxygen to xylene being from about 2.0: 1 to about 3: 1, the percentage concentration by volume of the reactant charge being about 3% to 10% xylene, 7% to 20% ammonia and 10% to 20% oxygen and the catalyst for said reaction comprising at least about 1 to 10% by weight of a vanadium bronze supported on alpha alumina.
