Abstract
Method for quickly erecting platforms on the high seas, characterized by the fact that vertical drawers, anchored at the bottom, have their upper end protruding above the water at a height greater than that at which the platform is to be raised; the platform has a plurality of open drawer pits, one for each drawer, and is movable in position to receive said drawers; the platform has a lift jack unit for each drawer, preferably two pairs of lift jack posts, and lift jack mechanisms, each pivotably connected at its lower end to the deck and receiving one of the lift jack posts ; and to understand the operations: hold the lifting jack heads at a height greater than that of the upper end of the drawers; position the platform so that a drawer is housed in each of the drawer wells; lowering the lift jack heads, and slide the lift jack posts down through their associated lift jack mechanisms until the lift jack heads engage the upper end of the drawers; and then operating the lift jack mechanisms of the lift jack units to lift the platform over the drawers, using the upper end of the drawers as load reaction points for the lifting effort of the lift jack units.
