Abstract
A process of reforming hydrocarbons with low-temperature steam in the process of manufacturing a methane-containing gas by introducing a hydrocarbon-containing hydrocarbon material having at least 2 carbon atoms per molecule and steam preheated to a temperature within the range of 250 to 600ºC in a steam reforming reactor (s) filled (s) with a nickel-containing catalyst and performing the steam reforming reaction of said hydrocarbons at a pressure of reaction of at least one atmosphere while maintaining the temperature of the catalytic bed of said reactor or reactors within the range of 500 to 600ºC, characterized in that said reform reaction must be carried out in the presence of a nickel-containing catalyst which is has prepared in such a way that the atomic ratio of nickel to magnesium (Ni/Mg) in the same mo is within the range of 0.05 to 7.0, and a solid solution consisting of nickel oxide and magnesium oxide is contained therein.
