Process for reducing the tendency to pellet formation of the acrylic fibers and fibrous products thereof, characterized in that it comprises treating an acrylic fiber or a product thereof, obtained from an acrylonitrile polymer containing at least 80 % by weight of acrylonitrile and any residue of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers copolymerizable therewith, with an aqueous solution containing a salt of an alkyl sulphate of 8 to 16 carbon atoms, said salt being selected from among sodium, potassium and ammonium, and sodium carbonate, said treatment being carried out at a temperature of about 50 to 100º c, to deposit from about 0.1 to 2% by weight of said alkyl sulfate and from about 0.5 to 3% by weight of sodium carbonate, being based on both percentages in the dry weight of said fiber or fibrous product; and then drying the treated cloth at a temperature of 60 to 120º c.
