Abstract
Process for the production of hydroxybiphenyl derivatives, of formula I, **(See formula)** wherein R1 signifies a tertiary alkyl radical containing from 4 to 9 carbon atoms, R2 signifies an alkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl radical containing up to 18 carbon atoms or an aralkyl radical containing up to 18 carbon atoms, R3 signifies hydrogen, an alkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl radical containing up to 9 carbon atoms, or halogen, cyano, trifluoromethyl or a radical corresponding to the formula **(See formula)** where R1 and R2 are as defined above, M means hydrogen, nickel, zinc, manganese, copper or an alkyl radical containing 1 to 9 carbon atoms, Z means an alkyl radical containing 1 to 9 carbon atoms, X stands for hydrogen or a -CO- group, which, together with the other -CO- group attached to the nitrogen atom, is directly bonded to Y to form a 5- or 6-membered ring, each of Y signifying an alkyl radical, saturated or unsaturated cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl or aralkyl with one or two double or triple bonds, said radicals containing up to 22 carbon atoms, or an aromatic radical containing up to 22 carbon atoms in total; the said radicals are linked directly or through -COO- or -CONH- with the radical in the angle brackets, and do not have heteroatoms or are interrupted up to 4 times by atoms, sulfur or oxygen or -COO- or -CONH-, and are unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, OH, CN or COOM', where M' stands for hydrogen, nickel, zinc, manganese or copper, n stands for 1 or 2, m stands for 1 or 2, p means 1, 2, 3 or 4, and in the case that n means 1 and p means 2, Y can also mean a direct bond, characterized in that an amide bond is conventionally formed between a compound containing a radical of formula IIa, **(See formula)** wherein R1 to R3 are defined as above, and a radical-containing compound of formula Y, where Y is defined as above, to form a compound corresponding to formula I, defined above.
