Abstract
A process for the preparation of shaped structures from an acrylonitrile polymer composition and water, characterized by adding water to an acrylonitrile polymer containing at least 40% by weight of acrylonitrile units, in an amount equivalent to at least 45 of that required to hydrate all nitrile groups or 80% of that required to hydrate coupled nitrile groups (based on one molecule of water per nitrile group), using whichever is greater, and maximum the amount to be combined as hydrate plus 7% by weight of water, calculated on the polymer, the total amount of water not exceeding that necessary to hydrate all the nitrile groups of the polymer, heating the composition under autogenous pressure at least up to at least the hydration temperature Th, determined by Raman Laser spectroscopy, extrude the composition under pressure through an o extrusion port at a temperature between 25ºC below and 10ºC above the hydration temperature to obtain the extruded shaped product.
