A heat exchanger system comprising: a heat spring; a first heat exchanger for transferring heat from said spring to a first fluid comprising a matrix of tubular elements joined together with a plurality of bodies that provide passages for combustion products therethrough, the average length of said passages being less than 20 times the average radius of curvature of said bodies; first conduit means for circulating said first fluid between said first heat exchanger and a second heat exchanger to transfer heat from said first fluid to a second fluid; and second conduit means for circulating said second fluid through said second heat exchanger.
