Abstract

A method of manufacturing a marking core surrounded by a shell, for the manufacture of pencils, comprising providing a composition consisting essentially of, and relative to the pitch proportions of, approximately 30% to 90% of a thermoplastic resin binder, approximately 10% to 70% of a fibrous filler, and approximately 0.5% to 15% of a metallic soap, the composition having a moisture content of approximately 0.3% to 2%, extrude a wrapper of said composition around a core to mark, and cool the resulting extrudate.
