Abstract

Pencil consists of a graphie core embedded in a rod of rigid cellular resing. The rigid cellular resin may consist of polystyrene, polyethylene, PVC, ABS resin, polyamide, polycarbonate or a polyurethane. The pencil is produced by continuously extruding the rigid celular resin around the graphite core. The pencils are cheaper to manufacture than wood encased pencils. Unlike pencils with solid resin covers, the present pencils can be easily sharpened with a penknife or pencil-sharpener.
