Abstract
Process for obtaining sodium polysulfide and sodium hydroxide from sodium sulfide and sodium hydrosulfide, characterized in that it comprises the steps of providing a contacogen, a gaseous oxidant and an aqueous reducing agent, capable of forming an interface when they are brought into contact with each other, the reducing agent being an aqueous solution containing sodium sulphide or sodium hydrosulfide, said contacogen being in a relative manner chemically inert with respect to both, oxidant and reducing agent; put both, oxidant and reducing agent, in contact with said contacogen and in contact with each other; and maintaining said contacogen simultaneously in intimate contact with said oxidant and said reducing agent to simultaneously effect in said contacogen the reduction of said oxidant to produce sodium hydroxide and oxidation of sulfur ions or hydrosulfide ions to produce sodium polysulfide.
