Abstract

A quick-release or snap-on collar 1 for receiving a screw-threaded dyeing spindle 4 has a pressure plate 3 resiliently supported by spring 2 to engage a coil of yarn on the spindle, screw threads formed on at least one jaw 11, the jaw being movable between positions of engagement and disengagement with the spindle by means of a handle 13. The spindle 4 can thus be inserted through apertures 5, 8 in a housing 6 with the jaw 11, normally biased by spring 16 into engagement with the spindle, disengaged, subsequent release of the handle 13 enabling the jaw 11, together with fixed jaw 12, to grip the spindle which can then be finely adjusted by screwing. In alternative embodiments (not shown) both jaws may be threaded and movable into positions of disengagement and engagement with the spindle, the jaws being pivotable (Figs. 5-7) or slidable linearly (Figs. 8-12), or the jaws may be moved linearly apart by a single-armed lever and toggle mechanism (Figs. 13-15), or by a cam and follower arrangement (Figs. 16-19).
