Abstract

A process for the preparation of a hydrocarbon-containing composition, characterized by mixing (A) a major proportion by weight of a suddenly distilled fuel or a crude or shale oil, or preferably a residue-containing fuel, with (B) 0.0001% to 10%, preferably 0.0005% to 0.5% by weight of the fuel or oil, of the reaction product of (a) an alcohol or an amine containing at least 16, and preferably 20 to 26, carbon atoms per molecule, with (b) a copolymer of co-monomers (1) of an ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, or an anhydride or a derivative thereof, and (2) at least one alpha olefin containing not less than 20, preferably 20 to 50, carbon atoms per molecule.
