Abstract
A warning arrangement for indicating a difference in pressure between two normally equal independent pressures, such as the pressures 14, 16 of a split fluid pressure braking system, comprises two diaphragms 32, 32a influenced by the two pressures and acting, through projections 46, 46a, on piezo-electric elements 42, 42a. These are of equal but opposite construction and are connected to a common output lead 20 whose potential is normally zero. Should a substantial difference in pressure occur, the potential arising on lead 20 operates a control unit 24 to actuate a warning device 30. The control unit 24 may comprise a thyristor operated directly (Fig. 4, not shown) or via a field effect transistor (Fig. 3, not shown). The two separate units 18, 18a may be replaced by a single unit (Fig. 2, not shown) in which the piezo-electric elements act as a divider. As shown, a vehicle brake pedal 10, a master cylinder 12, and an ignition switch 28 are provided. Each piezo-electric element 42, or 42a, comprises two layers of lead zirconate titanate bonded together and polarized in the senses shown.
