A method of producing a vinyl chloride resin having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0.8, by polymerizing vinyl chloride in the presence of a peroxydicarbonate as the initiator, the initiator being present in an amount sufficient to cause polymerization of the chloride of vinyl at a rate of at least 14.3%/hr, characterized by controlling the exothermic heat of the reaction by causing the evaporation of a part of the vinyl chloride with respect to the reaction medium during the polymerization in the presence of an antifoaming agent, condensing the thus vaporized vinyl chloride into a liquid, and returning the liquid vinyl chloride to said medium.
