Abstract

Apparatus for supplying compressed air, e.g. to an air-blast circuit interrupter 10, 12 or to a short-circuiting switch operating in high pressure air without air-blast, comprises a highpressure air container 28, a low-pressure air container 16, a compressor 20 to pump air from the low-pressure container into the high pressure container, a relief valve 36 to admit air from the atmosphere into the container 16 when the pressure in the container falls below atmospheric pressure and air drying means for removing moisture from the air supplied to the compressed air container 28. The air drying means may comprise absorbent filters 22, 26, 42. In the circuit interrupter arrangement shown, the compressed air blast from the interrupter units 10, 12 exhausts into the lowpressure container for re-circulation and an excess pressure relief valve 30 is provided. This arrangement limits the amount of air entering the system so that only small filters are necessary.
