Abstract

In a signal light device for automobile vehicles comprising a lamp 1, 2 of a signal light adapted to be temporarily connected to an electrical source when a signal is to be emitted and a photo-sensitive element 8 controlling the intensity of the lamp 1, 2 as a function of the level of the ambient illumination, the lamp 1, 2 is connected in series with the emitter-collector circuit of a transistor 6 to the base of which the ', photo-sensitive element 8 is connected and an auxiliary lamp 9 having a resistance which varies in a non-linear manner as a function of its energizing voltage is connected between the emitter and collector of the transistor whereby a decrease in luminous intensity of the signal lamp 1, 2 takes place only below a predetermined ambient illumination. The signal lamps 1, 2 may be the vehicle stop lights or trafficator lights and the auxiliary lamp 9 may have a tungsten filament with a nitrogen, hydrogen or argon atmosphere. The photo-sensitive element 8 has a maximum resistance in darkness so that transistor 6 is biased OFF and the intensity of illumination of the signal lamps 1, 2 is controlled by the auxiliary lamp 9. As the ambient light increases to a point intermediate darkness and daylight the resistance of the photo-sensitive element 8 decreases and transistor 6 conducts to increase the intensity of signal lamps 1, 2. When maximum daylight occurs the photosensitive element 8 is at its minimum resistance and the transistor 6 is.fully conducting, making the voltage drop across the auxiliary lamp 9 zero to give maximum intensity to signal lamps 1, 2.
