Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula in which R1 is C 1 -C 6 alkyl, R is C 1 -C 6 alkyl or phenyl and X and Y are O or S at least one of X and Y being S. They may be obtained by either (a) reacting furfuryl alcohol with a compound: (R10)(R)P(S)Hal in which Hal is a halogen atom or (b) by reacting a 2-(furanyl)-methyl halide with a compound: (R 1 O)(R)P(Y)SH. The processes are preferably carried out in the presence of an acid binding agent, e.g. a tertiary amine or an alkali metal alcoholate or carbonate and an inert solvent or diluent may also be present. In method (b) the alkali metal salt may be used instead of the free acid. The products have insecticidal and acaricidal properties and may be used in the form of conventional compositions containing a solid or liquid diluent or carrier with or without a surface active agent.
