Abstract
An alkaline cell comprises a plastics body 1 having a projection 2 on which is supported an internal diaphragm 6, the diaphragm separating the positive and negative electrodes 7, 3 and both electrodes having metal connectors 4, 10 arranged so that each can make contact with the appropriate connectors of two adjacent cells of the same construction. The body may be cylindrical or rectangular and the projection may have an oblique face (Fig. 2, not shown) so that the diaphragm wedges against it. The cell may be a zinc/air or zinc/manganese type. In Fig. 1, electrode 3 is of zinc paste and electrode 7 is an air electrode, 5 denotes sealing material. The cells may be stacked into a battery which is wrapped in a casing having air holes in it (Figs. 3 and 4) and during storage is further protected by an air-tight polyethylene container (Fig. 5).
