Abstract
A catalyst comprises U x Mo y O z wherein x is 1-25, y is 1-25 and z is such as to balance the valences, and/or AS x U y O z wherein x is 1-10, y is 1-25 and z is such as to balance the valences, and/or Sba U b Mo c O d wherein a is 3-15, b is 1-3, c is 0.001-0.5 and d is such as to balance the valences, each composition being formed by heating the mixed oxides or their precursors in the presence of O 2 and absence of reducing gas at a temperature above 500 F. and below the melting or sublimation point of the component oxides. Each catalyst may be promoted by different elements chosen from Ce, Sb, W, Zn, Mn, Fe, Cr, Bis, Co, Ni, Sn, V, B, Mo and As. Examples describe oxides of U, Mo U, As Sb, U, Mo U, Mo, Fe, Bi Sb, U, Mo, Fe Mo, U, As containing SiO 2 .
