Abstract
Synthesis of urea from NH3 and CO2 at 200-350 atm./160-230 deg.C., in which the unconverted material is recycled to the reactor as an aqs. soln., whereby the effluent from the reactor, which is an aqs. soln. of urea, ammonium carbamate and possibly NH3, is contacted with gaseous mist. of H2, N2 and 14% CO2, by which the ammonium carbamate is decomposed, and the decomp. products and (if present) NH3 are released and absorbed in an aqs. soln. which is returned to the reactor, the decompn., separation and absorption being carried out at a pressure equal to that in the reactor.
