Abstract

A device for securing self adhesive labels to articles comprises a deflection edge 8 for forwarding the labels with the adhesive layer turned upwards from a label carrier belt 2 to a 1 label lifter 3. A goods carrier 5 situated above the label lifter 3 has an opening 4 through which the label is pressed against the bottom of the article 6 when the label lifter meets the carrier. The carrier belt 2 is pulled intermittantly by a draw-off device 7 through a guide channel 65 and over the deflection edge 8 where each label is removed individually and is forwarded to a flexible pad 10 of the label lifter 3. In one embodiment the goods carrier 5 is pressed manually downwardly against a spring 12 to actuate the label lifter 3 and retract the draw off-device 7 via levers 42 and 17 respectively. The carrier belt is clamped by a clamp 28 and the article 6 is labelled by upward motion of the label lifter. Downward movement of the carrier also actuates a roller 70 by way of levers 77, 75 to draw a loop of the carrier belt from a supply spool. The belt 2 is pulled over the deflection device 8 by a predetermined amount so as to forward another label 1 to the label lifter 3 as the carrier 5 returns to its starting position. In a further embodiment, the goods carrier may be part of a shoot such that when an article is forwarded to the carrier, downward motion of the carrier actuates electromagnetic drives for the label lifter and carrier belt.
