Abstract

1391349 Labelling machine HEINRICH HERMANN 20 June 1972 [25 June 1971] 28703/72 Heading B8F Articles 1, such as envelopes, are fed in direction 10 on to a continuously moving conveyer 12, and labels 2 are fed in a perpendicular direction 24 on a conveyer 23 to a waiting position between bearer bars 17 and downholder bars 27 before being applied by movement in a mutually perpendicular direction to an article by a roller 19 mounted on a lever arm 20. The roller is released by a solenoid 21, when the leading edge of an article actuates switch 29, and pushes the leading edge 30 of the label into contact with the article, the forward feed of which withdraws the label. For ease of withdrawal the bearer bars 17 may have rotatable sleeves or be rotatably mounted in beam 18. The label feed is controlled conventionally by a label detector. The position of the label may be altered by sliding the beam 18 and label feed means on rails 22. Rollers 14 hold the articles on the conveyer 12, and to accommodate different article heights it is supported by tension springs and mounted on a parallelogram linkage so that it may be lowered.
