Abstract

A shot pattern-control device for mounting on and forming an extension of the barrel of a shotgun comprises a body defining a bore which is shaped along a length thereof to consist of two pairs of wall surfaces, the walls of each pair facing each other. The walls of one pair are each disposed at an angle to a first plane containing the longitudinal axis of the tubular body and the walls of the other pair are each disposed at an angle to a second plane perpendicular to the first plane and containing the longitudinal axis of the tubular body (Figs. 5, 6, not shown), the angles being such that the cross-section of the said length of the bore has a major axis and a minor axis. The bore may be provided along said length with shot diverting ridges which decrease in height towards the rear of the length. In the construction shown the device comprises two parts 3, 5 screwthreadedly connected, the rear part 3 being provided with apertures the forward corners 23 of which are curved to enhance turbulence during firing of the shotgun to attenuate the noise of the shot. The forward walls of the apertures and the rearward end of the forward part 5 which coincides therewith are angled with respect to the vertical plane through the device to deflect explosion gases.
