Abstract
Connector for connecting a detonator 20 to a detonating fuse-cord 19 in a method of marine seismographic prospecting wherein a length of fuze-cord is unwound from a drum and trailed behind a boat comprises, a body 10, e.g., of polyethylene, formed with two substantially parallel intercommunicating bores 12 and 13 into which the detonator and fuze-cord are slidably inserted and held in such proximity to each other that detonation of the detonator causes detonation of the fuze-cord, and one or more metal tie rods 17 each attached by one of its ends to the body for joining the connector to an electric firing cable. The end of the fuzecord is covered by a metal cap and is doubled back into a third bore 14 containing waterproofing composition. The electric lead wires of the detonator are secured in slots 16, and the bared end 23 of one lead is allowed to trail in the sea or soldered to a metal sleeve surrounding the body so as to provide an " earth." The bared end 22 of the other wire is in electrical contact with the tie-rod 17, which terminates in a split-ring 18. A slip-ring 24 enables the assembly to be slid down the cable 21. In other embodiments, the tie-rod terminates directly in a slip-ring or in a hook engageable with a slip-ring. Alternatively, two tie-rods can be used which hook together to form a slip-ring, the ring being broken as the fuze-cord explodes and destroys the body 10.
