Abstract

A centre closed shed single lift jacquard has pneumatic selection and magnetic lifting of the healds and one pattern card may operate a block of similar groups of healds for weft wise pattern repeats or separate shedding mechanisms as in small ware looms. A movable air box 29 (Fig. 6) presses a continuous perforated pattern a perforated cards against a presser block 7 and holes in the cards permit air to enter corresponding pipes 8 which lead to distribution blocks 9 to 12. The block 9 passes any of thirty six air impulses to each of the blocks 10 to 12 which each have thirty six outlet pipes 32 leading to pattern mechanisms 15 to 17. Each pattern mechanism 15 to 17 has thirty six balls 25, 25a (only two shown) at the outlets of the pipes 32 and each ball is in a chamber with an outlet 28 leading to a further chamber 19 which may be either pressurised or exhausted. Each ball chamber has a needle 21, 22 passing through it into the outlets 28 and each needle has armatures 45, 47 between which are healds 50, the armatures co-operating with magnetic plates 41, 49. In use, an air impulse from a hole in the pattern card cause a ball (25a in Fig. 5) to move to the right, blocking the path of the needle 22 into passage 28, whereas the ball 25 receives no impulse and stays to the left leaving its passage 28 free. The magnetic plate 41 is then energised and raised, lifting with it the needle 21 but not the needle 22 whose path is blocked by the ball 25a. The magnetic plate 49 is then energised and lowered taking with it all those needles whose paths had been blocked. At open shed the pressure in the pipes 32 is relieved and the chamber 19 pressurised so that, upon closing the shed, all the balls are returned to the left for a further 'selection.
