Abstract
A method of forming a breakwater comprises mooring in position an elongated, closed hollow, floatable member 1 and filling it with fluid, the filled member having an upper, longitudinally extending, laterally inclined plane or curved shelving surface 8 and a submerged vertical extent not less than the amplitude of the largest wave desired to be attenuated, and being filled with fluid so that its buoyancy causes the inclined shelving surface to be at or adjacent to the cabin water level, there being not more than 1/10 of the vertical extent of the floatable member above calm water level. The member 1 is moored in netting 3 to anchor blocks 4. Several members may be arranged as a bundle or in parallel, or in series to form a closed loop or lagoon within which a vessel may operate.
