Abstract

Apparatus for extracting stoppers from containers comprises a reception component displaceable by the container mouth, articulated members to penetrate and retain the stopper, means for returning the reception component and so extracting the stopper, ejector means, and a control or warning device actuated by incorrect presentation of the container. Stoppers 29 are removed from bottles 28 or like containers by an articulated piercer 11. In operation, each bottle 28 is caused to enter the part 4 which is thereby raised within the fixed cylinder 2, through contact with the' shoulder of the bottle, against the action of a spring 5, carrying with it a collar 6 and so compressing a further spring 14. The lower portion of the piercer 11 is thus exposed, allow ing it to penetrate the stopper 29 before rollers 12, mounted on the collar 6, contact the upper arms 11a of the piercer thereby causing the lower arms to separate under the stopper, Fig. 4 (not shown). A tube 7, secured to the collar 6 and sliding in a sleeve 16, is held at the top of it travel by a spring-loaded roller 23 which enters a slot 7a in the tube 7. Next, the bottle 28 is lowered, the spring 5 moves the part 4 downwards toward its original position, and the stopper 29, held by the lower portion of the piercer 11, is removed from the bottle 28. The roller 23 is now actuated to release the tube 7 which moves downwards, urged by the spring 14, causing the rollers 12 to free the upper arms 11a of the piercer 11. The lower arms of the piercer are now closed by the action of a part 10 before the arrival of the collar 6 which ejects the stopper 29 from the piercer 11. If in any case penetration of the stopper 29 does not take place, the piercer 11 is raised by the bottle 28 carrying with it a rod 17 the upper end of which contacts a member 33 thereby actuating a warning device or stopping the apparatus. Incorrect presentation of a bottle, causing the travel of the part 4 to be increased, is detected by a part 15, mounted on the part 4, actuating a further warning device. In a modification, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the piercer arms are controlled by a projection moving in slots cut in the arms.
