A process for preparing esters of modified epoxy resin consisting of: (A) esterifying a glycidyl ether of a divalent phenol with an unsaturated fatty acid in proportions sufficient to react with at least about 90% of the hydroxyl groups of the flicidyl ether, in which an epoxide group is considered equivalent to 2 hydroxyl groups; (33) forming an addition compound of the resulting fatty acid ester with at least 8% by weight of maleic anhydride, based on the weight of the total composition and, (C) hydroxyalcohilar of about 25 to about 75% of the equivalents of carboxylic acid of maleic anhydride added with a hydroxyalkylation reaction.
