A flame heating apparatus comprising: an enclosure forming a chamber; means for supplying hot gases thereto; at least one row of parallel tubes in a common plane within that chamber; means for supplying fluid to the tubes near one of their ends; a manifold in a plane parallel to each row of tubes approximately at right angles to the tubes; connectors extending directly from near the ends of the tubes in front of the ends to supply fluid; a bar parallel to the manifold in contact with each tube in each row of tubes and having a coefficient of thermal expansion approximately similar to that of the manifold, whereby the tubes are separated by the thermal expansion of the bar preventing the rupture of said connectors by the thermal expansion of the collector; and means for retaining the bar in contact with the tubes.
