Abstract
Method of manufacturing an oxide cathode suitable for use in an electronic tube in which the distance between the cathode and the next next electrode is small, the support of the emitting layer of this cathode being first coated with a layer of a mixture of barium carbonate and strontium and, before the cathode is incorporated into the electronic tube, it is subjected to a heat treatment in a separate space, characterized in that the cathode support, after the application of the carbonate layer, is introduced in an evacuated space and heated to a temperature between 1000 and 1100º C until the carbonates have completely converted into oxides, after which a mixture of CO and CO2 is allowed to enter this evacuated space, while the cathode support is maintained at a temperature between 800 and 850ºC until the alkaline earth oxides have been completely converted back to the carbonates, after which support is cooled in this carbon dioxide atmosphere and is incorporated into an electronic tube and the carbonates are converted to the oxides in the usual manner.
