Abstract

A ceramic stain consists of a calcined mixture of eerie oxide, 0 to 10% by weight of borax, and not more than 20% by weight of uranium oxide, the uranium oxide being present in solid solution in the eerie oxide. The preferred compositions, including an addition of borax, fall within the ranges 0À5-20% by weight of uranium oxide, 0-10% by weight of borax and 70-99À5% by weight of eerie oxide. In the production of the stain the mixture is calcined at from 1100 to 1600 C. for from 1 to 24 hours.
