Abstract

Apparatus for controlling the operation of a unit for transferring liquid in dependence on the valve of a parameter associated with liquid contained in vessel comprises a jack 1 which controls the transferring apparatus, such as a pump or valve, the fluid pressure supplied to opposite sides of the jack from a supply 2 being controlled by valves 19,21. When the parameter reaches a predetermined valve, a pressure pulse is supplied through a conduit 7 and flows through a normally open valve 14 to open a valve 15 which permits flow from the conduit 2 through branch 18 and normally open valve 17 to cause valve 19 to open and valve 21 to close whereby the piston 1b of jack 1 moves to the right to start transference of liquid. The pulse pressure in conduit 7 also closes a valve 13 and opens a valve 11 the latter valve thereby operates a whistle 12. With the valve 19 open, a branch 16 receives pressure fluid to open a valve 20 in parallel with valve 15 when the pulse pressure ceases, the valve 13 again opens and pressure in pipe 16 moves the valve 14 to connect the conduit 7 to the valve 17. The valve 15 is also closed when the pulse ceases, but flow through conduit 18 continues through valve 20. When a second pulse is received, the fluid flows through valve 14 to actuate valve 17 which opens the conduit 18 downstream of the valve to exhaust thereby closing valve 19 and opening valve 21 to move the piston 1b to the left. Conduit 16 is also open to exhaust through valve 19 thus closing valve 20. When the pulse ceases, valve 13 again opens and the actuating pressure of value 14 is exhausted to move the valve back to the open position and thus valve 17 to open position.
