Abstract

A liquid toner composition for developing a negatively charged electrostatic latent image comprises:- (a) an insulating liquid carrier, (b) positively charged pigment particles, (c) a salt of a divalent or trivalent metal and an organic acid, particularly an aliphatic acid having 2-18 carbon atoms, which salt is soluble in the liquid carrier or is dissolved in a liquid miscible and compatible with the composition, and (d) an antioxidant. Suitable pigments are carbon, talc, and metallic and organic pigments these may be admixed with asphaltum, alkyd, epoxy or hydrocarbon resins. Suitable antioxidants are 2,6-ditert-butyl-p-cresol, aminophenols, hydroquinones, alkylated phenols and phenylenediamines. The toner composition may also contain a dispersant, e.g. siloxanes and disiloxanes containing C4-10 alkyl and alkoxy radicals, and esters, of aliphatic alcohols and oxygen containing acids of boron, silicon, phosphorus and titanium.
