Abstract
A method for the oxychlorination of aliphatic hydrocarbons and their incompletely chlorinated derivatives, in which the material being chlorinated is introduced into a fluidized bed of oxychlorination catalyst particles with a chlorinating agent selected from the group consisting of HCl, Cl2, and oxygen characterized in that the velocity of the product gases leaving the fluidized bed is reduced in a vapor zone above the bed, the velocity of the gases is then increased above that to which they are removed from the bed to deposit this fine particles entrained in the zone of increased velocity and the reaction gases are essentially removed free of fine particles from said zone while maintaining the velocity zone increased to a temperature above the dew point of the gases.
