Abstract

An insert 20 for a food container 10 which has an open end comprises an elongated susbtantially flat sheet of flexible material of such dimensions that it may be placed flat on the base 14 of the container. The insert has a longitudinal groove 25 which is concave with respect to the upper surface of the sheet to provide a rib that extends downwardly from the lower surface of the sheet so as to resist the tendency of the free end of the insert to bend downwardly when supported by the other end. The insert also has a plurality of transverse ridges 26, which project upwardly from the upper surface of the sheet and which are arranged to engage an item of food in the container such that when the insert is drawn from the container the food item will be drawn with it.
