Abstract

An electrically operated sewing machine, comprising an electric motor having a first shaft, drive wheel means mounted with freedom of rotation on the first shaft, a sewing needle control including a second shaft, driven wheel means mounted on the second axis for cooperation, by means of an endless band, with the driving wheel means, electromagnetic clutch means including an impeller member mounted on the first axis for rotation therewith and a driven member mounted for rotation with the drive wheel means, electromagnetic brake means including a first element mounted on the second axis for rotation with it and a second element for attracting and thus stopping the first element when the brake means are energized, cam means provided in the second axis and intended, during the rotation thereof, to actuate contact means electrically connected to the brake means and means in switches intended to switch a source of electric current from the clutch to the brake means to thereby effect the excitation of the brake means when the contact means are actuated and consequently to stop the second axis.
