Abstract
Process for the catalytic preparation of phenol; characterized by starting from a crude fraction of oxygenated cyclohexane containing at least one group member consisting of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol and substituted lower alkyl ring derivatives thereof, and by vaporizing the said fraction and diluting with hydrogen in a proportion of the order of 0.02 to 0.3 g of hydrogen per gram of cyclohexanone and total cyclohexanol, and by contacting the resulting mixture with a dehydrogenation catalyst at a temperature of the order of 250º to 425º C, at a liquid hourly space velocity of the order of 0.3 to 2.5 and for recovering the phenol of the reaction product and further, for the improvement comprising using as platinum catalyst on active carbon containing up to 5% by weight of platinum; This has been deposited on the carbon by contact of the latter with a solution of platinum compound in a solvent, under conditions of deposition of the platinum, and continuing the contact for a time appreciable in excess of that necessary for the almost complete absorption of platinum on charcoal.
