DESCRIPTION

Envelope packaging

The present invention relates to a wrap-around package for wipes and tissues, in particular wet wipes, dry wipes and dry tissues.

Envelope containers are widely used to package different products, for example food products such as chocolate, cookies, cakes, but also household, hygiene or technical products. Typical household products are wet wipes, which are small, moistened pieces of paper or cloth. Other products are dry wipes and dry tissues. Wipes and tissues are typically used for cleaning purposes.

Wrap-around packages comprise a film in the form of a single layer film or a multilayer film. Wrap-around packages can also comprise additional structures such as resealable plastic closures or resealable labels. The structure of the laminate depends on the desired properties with respect to the packaged product, for example, in terms of a barrier effect against oxygen, moisture or light from outside the package, but also from inside the package, for example , to prevent packaged products from drying out. Films used for wrap-around packaging are typically produced and delivered to the packer in the form of bands. In the course of packaging, the film is unwound and wrapped around the product. Usually, the packaging process is carried out on horizontal or vertical wrapping machines. In the case where a single item of a product is wrapped in a wrap-around manner, the item is simply unwrapped when used. However, in cases where multiple items of a product are wrapped in a wrap-around manner, some type of extraction system is necessary. Multiple items are commonly packaged in the case of wet wipes, dry wipes and dry tissues. Therefore, the extraction system must allow the extraction of a single article, and also the new closure of the wrap-around package to protect the remaining articles, in the case of wet wipes against drying. It is known that such an extraction system can be achieved by introducing a cut by means of a die in the front wall of the wrapping container, said cut being pushed when an item is to be taken out. The application of a resealable label applied over the opening of the die allows the container to be resealed after the article has been removed. Another possibility for an extraction system is the integration of a plastic closure that allows the wrapping container to be closed again after removing a single item. For the user, such extraction systems are not very convenient. In addition, the additional parts of the wrap-around package, ie the resealable label or the plastic closure, require additional operations in the packaging process, making it more laborious and complicated. Often times, the printed resealable label does not match the graphics and colors printed on the front wall of the wrap-around package due to different printing processes for the wrap-around package and label.

EP 1010 638 describes a tubular bag package. The package comprises a cold seal and an additional adhesive area for reclosing the package when the cold seal has been broken by opening the package.

DE 102012 101 538 describes a wrap-around package having support folds which form a stable base area for a standing bag.

WO 2014/026 334 describes a container closure label for high alcohol content products. The container closure label has a layered structure comprising at least four layers.

DE 40 00857 describes a wrap-around package having a flap seal through which the sealing area in the flap seal in some parts is reduced to a narrow strip serving as an opening.

The object of the present invention is to provide a wrap-around package that has a simple extraction system that provides easy opening and closing of the wrap-around package without the need for additional parts that complicate the packaging process.

The object is achieved by a wraparound package according to claim 1. Other preferred embodiments are subject to the dependent claims.

A wrap-around package for wipes and tissues according to the present invention has a film. Said film defines a front wall, a rear wall, a longitudinal seal in the form of a flap seal arranged on the rear wall, and two transverse seal seams that define a product space. The flap seal is made up of two longitudinal sealing strips arranged on one side of the film facing the product space. The two longitudinal sealing strips extend parallel to the lateral edges of the film adjacent to an unsealed end region disposed on the same side of the film, whereby the sealing strips can be peeled off and resealed.

Peel ability is defined as the ability to separate two film materials in the course of opening a package without compromising the integrity of either one.

The film of the wrapper package is folded or wrapped around the product to be packaged so that the sealing strips of the film engage the rear side of the package and are sealed in order to form the longitudinal seal. In the longitudinal direction, the wrap-around package is closed by the two transverse sealed seams.

The wrap-around package according to the present invention provides an extraction system for the packaged products that is easy to operate. The unsealed end regions are easily separated and serve as a handle to peel off the sealing strips that form the flap seal that closes the wrapping on the back wall. In this way, an opening is provided that allows the removal of a single article. After removing the article, the sealing strips are pressed together and folded back against the rear wall in order to reseal the wrapping package. Consequently, the die and the resealable label applied on the die can be omitted and does not compromise the front wall printing through different colors that are due to the different printing processes used for the wrapper packaging and the label. Furthermore, since there is no need to punch out and apply a resealable label or integrate a plastic closure during the packaging process, the packaging speed is significantly increased.

The film used to make wrap-around packages preferably comprises at least two different polymers, for example polyethylene and polypropylene. Polymers are arranged in different layers of the film. Therefore, an outer side of the film, that is, the side that forms the exterior of the package, and an inner side of the film, that is, the one that faces the product space, comprise different polymers. In a preferred embodiment of the wrap-around package, the transverse seal seam is achieved by sealing the outer side of the film. Such a transverse seal seam facilitates a tighter package and provides a pinching effect in the area of the flap seal, giving the possibility of separating the interleaved wipes during removal of the wipes from the wrapper package.

In a preferred embodiment of the wrap-around package, the flap seal on the rear wall, as well as the two transverse seal seams, are achieved by sealing the inner side of the film.

In a preferred embodiment, the sealing strips have a width in the range of 2mm to 20mm, preferably in the range of 5mm to 15mm, most preferably in the range of 8mm to 12mm.

In another embodiment, the unsealed end region has a width in the range of 20mm to 30mm. The unsealed end region is important for convenient container handling. If the unsealed end region does not have a minimum width, it is difficult to grasp the end regions by hand and open the wrapper package.

In a preferred embodiment of the wrap-around package according to the present invention, a printing layer is arranged on at least a part of the front wall. Optionally, a protective layer is arranged on top of the printing layer. The printing layer can also be arranged over the entire front wall. Furthermore, a printing layer can also be arranged on a part or on the entire back wall. Preferably, a protective layer is provided on the back wall printing layer.

According to the invention the longitudinal seal seam in the form of a flap seal formed by the two longitudinal seal strips comprises a pressure sensitive adhesive.

The wrapper film can be a multilayer film. Preferably the film is a single layer film. The materials used for the film are polymers comprising polyolefin, polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, and metallized plastics, or silicon oxide (SiOx, so 1.3 <x <1.9). Ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) is an additional polymer that can be used. The following examples are possible film structures that have multiple layers: oPET / PE, oPP / oPET / PE, oPET / oPP / PE, oPET / oPET / PE, oPET / oPET / cPP, so the abbreviations mean the following oPP : oriented polypropylene, oPET: oriented polyethylene terephthalate, PE: polyethylene, cPP: cast polypropylene.

The following film structures are preferred: oPP / PE, oPP / cPP, PET / PE, PET / cPP. The oPP / PE film structure is most preferred.

The polymers mentioned above can also be co-extruded to form a single web comprising different layers of resin.

The resealable wrap-around package for wipes and tissues according to the present invention is explained in more detail below with reference to exemplary embodiments in the drawings, in which, purely schematically:

Fig. 1 shows a wrap-around package of the prior art. The wrap-around package 1 has a film 3. In addition, the front wall 5 and the two transverse seal seams 11 have been shown. The longitudinal seal seam on the rear wall cannot be seen. An adhesive label 19 is arranged on the front wall 5 in order to cover the punched opening used for the extraction of the product.

Fig. 2 shows an end view of a wrap-around container 1 according to the present invention. The wrap-around package 1 has a film 3 defining a front wall 5 and a rear wall 7. Only one of the two transverse sealed seams 11 that close the package at its longitudinal ends can be seen. The front wall 5 does not comprise any opening system for the extraction of the product and, therefore, it can carry an impression that is not compromised by other adhesive labels. The longitudinal seal seam 9 is arranged in the rear wall 7, preferably in the middle of the rear wall 7. The longitudinal seal seam 9 is in the form of a flap seal which has been shown in a vertical position. The unsealed end regions 13 next to the side edges 17 of the film 3 are easily separated and provide easy opening of the wrapper package.

Fig. 3 shows a simple view of a rear wall of the wrap-around package 1. The wrap-around package 1 is in a closed state. The longitudinal seal seam 9 in the form of a flap seal and the unsealed end regions 13 lie essentially flat against the rear wall 7 defined by the film 3. The two transverse seal seams 11 close the wrap-around package 1 at each end in its longitudinal direction.

Fig. 4 shows a film used for wrap-around packages 1 according to the present invention. The side of film 3 shown is the side facing the product space in the finished wrap-around package. The sealing strips 15 run in the longitudinal direction of the film, thus extending parallel to the lateral edges 17. Furthermore, the sealing strips 15 are arranged adjacent to the unsealed end regions 13 which are delimited by the lateral edges 17 from the movie 3.

Claims (8)

1. Wrap-around package (1) for wipes and tissues having a film (3) defining a front wall (5) and a rear wall (7), a longitudinal sealed seam in the form of a flap seal (9) arranged on the rear wall (7) and two transverse sealed seams (11) that define a product space, whereby the flap seal (9) is formed by two longitudinal sealing strips (15) arranged on one side of the film (3) that faces the product space and extends parallel to the lateral edges (17) of the film (3), so that the sealing strips (15) can be peeled off, characterized in that the two strips of Longitudinal seals comprise a pressure sensitive adhesive and wherein each longitudinal seal strip (15) is disposed adjacent to an unsealed end region (13), the end regions having a width of 15mm to 40mm and each unsealed end region (13) is bounded by edge l ateral (17) arranged on the same side of the film (3), whereby the sealing strips (15) can be resealed. A wrap-around package (1) according to claim 1, whereby the two transverse seal seams (11) are formed by sealing an outer side of the film (3). Wrap-around packaging (1) according to claim 1, whereby a printing layer is arranged on at least a part of the front wall (5) and optionally a protective layer is arranged on top of the printing layer. Wrap-around packaging (1) according to claim 1, whereby a printing layer is arranged at least on a part of the front wall (5) and at least on a part of the rear wall (7) and optionally a layer protective is arranged on top of the printing layer. Wrap-around package (1) according to claim 1, whereby the sealing strips (15) have a width in the range of 2mm to 20mm, preferably in the range of 5mm to 15mm, most preferably in the range from 8mm to 12mm. A wrap-around package (1) according to claim 1, whereby the unsealed end region (13) has a width in the range of 20mm to 30mm. 7. Wrap-around packaging (1) according to claim 1, whereby the film (3) is a multilayer film or preferably a single-layer film comprising polyolefin, polyester, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyamide, ethylene copolymer- vinyl alcohol, metallized plastics or SiOx. Wrap-around packaging (1) according to claim 7, whereby the film comprises a layer of oPP and a layer of PE.
