Abstract
The invention comprises disazo dyes free from vinylsulphonyl groups and from radicals capable of forming said groups under dyeing conditions and also free from acid water-solubilizing groups, which are of formula A-N=N-B-N=N-D wherein B is a benzene residue containing an alkylsulphonyl, phenylsulphonyl, benzylsulphonyl, phenylsulphonylalkyl, phenoxysulphonyl or a sulphonamide group of formula <FORM:0966252/C4-C5/1> wherein R1 is an alkyl residue and R2 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl residue or R1 and R2 may form a heterocyclic ring with the nitrogen atom, B is a 1,4-phenylene or -naphthylene residue and D is a benzene residue having an hydroxy group in p-position to the azo group. The dyes are prepared by diazotizing an aminoazo dye A-N=N-B-NH2 and coupling with a p-coupling phenol. They may be used to dye hydrophobic fibrous materials such as cellulose ether and ester, polyamide, polyurethane and polyester fibres in yellow to red shades.
