Ratchet consisting of a working head (2), a lever arm (3) that can be angled, and a locking mechanism (18) securing the angled position between the lever arm (3) and the working head (2), this locking mechanism being operable by a spindle (12) axially arranged in the lever arm (3) and traveling in a thread (14) on the lever arm side, characterized in that the spindle (12) carries at the rear end a handle (13) adapted for rotating the spindle, that the locking mechanism (18) comprises an axially displaceable catch member (8) which is, however, supported nonrotationally in the lever arm (3), and which can be brought into shape-mating engagement with the working head (2), and in that the spindle (12), at the front end, is in engagement, by means of a thread (17) running counter to the thread (14) on the lever arm side, with the catch member (8).
