Abstract
Un sistema de almacenamiento de calor térmico que comprende: un tanque de almacenamiento (400), dicho tanque de almacenamiento conteniendo un material para almacenamiento térmico y un fluido de transferencia de calor; un sistema de inyección de calor (500) que usa vapor en condiciones despresurizadas para transferencia de calor, y se acopla a una entrada del tanque de almacenamiento (400) y que comprende un subsuelo (506); un receptor (504); una cámara (508) bajo el tanque de almacenamiento (400) y separada de manera fluida del tanque de almacenamiento (400) por el subsuelo (506); un tubo descendente (502) acoplado de manera fluida a la cámara (508) y configurado para transportar un vapor generado en el receptor (504) a la cámara (508) bajo presión del vapor formado en el receptor (504); una bomba para devolver condensado formado de la condensación de vapor desde la cámara (508) al receptor (504); y un sistema de recuperación de calor acoplado a una salida en el tanque de almacenamiento (400), el sistema de recuperación de calor usando vapor en condiciones despresurizadas para transferencia de calor.

Por ejemplo, la figura 7 es otra realización del intercambiador de calor montado en la parte superior del tanque de almacenamiento. Esta configuración de flujo cruzado 700 contiene tuberías 704 abiertas al vapor Na, que tienen una altura de aproximadamente 0,5 m de alto, diámetro de aproximadamente 0,15 m y una separación aproximadamente de 0,25-0,3 m. El Na condensado 702 gotea de vuelta a la superficie de sal 706. La sal fundida 708 y la sal congelada 710 también se detallan en la figura 7.
Los principios de transferencia de calor de inyección de potencia en el tanque de almacenamiento se aplican a cualquier fuente a alta temperatura, y por ejemplo, fuentes de energía renovables. En una realización, el sistema de entrada se acopla a una entrada del sistema de inyección de calor que proporciona calor desde la potencia solar. La figura 8 representa un sistema de almacenamiento de calor térmico usando potencia solar. La Potencia Solar Concentrada (CSP) recoge luz desde múltiples heliostatos 802, por ejemplo, 440 en número, cada helióstato 802 de 7 m x 7 m en una disposición de 22 acres, y concentra la luz en un receptor 804, por ejemplo, un dispositivo cilíndrico o cónico de cubierta fina y ennegrecido montado en la parte superior de la torre 806, por ejemplo, torre 806 de 45 m de alto. La altura y el diámetro del receptor 804 puede ser 2 m, y la potencia de luz incidente total es 1214 MW. Un tanque de almacenamiento 808 se monta en o por debajo del suelo con una turbina Brayton 810 conectada como se describe anteriormente.
La figura 9 ilustra la concentración de intensidad solar para calentar un pequeño receptor usando heliostatos fácilmente adaptados a partir de diseños disponibles actualmente. En esta realización, el heliostato 902 refleja luz al receptor 904 montado sobre la torre 906 en un área dentro de 2 m x 2 m interceptada por el receptor. Esta huella óptica pequeña se logra usando heliostatos 902 que tienen un montaje alineado por objetivo y colocación de espejo elíptico que reduce en gran medida la aberración.
El interior del receptor 904 se evacúa. Aproximadamente 1-2 MW/m2 de flujo de luz se absorbe en la superficie 904 del receptor, aproximadamente menos del 10 % se vuelve a irradiar, y el resto se conduce a través de la cubierta de pared fina que se pulveriza para enfriarse en la superficie interior con líquido Na. El alto nivel de potencia vaporiza inmediatamente la pulverización Na, y el receptor 904 se convierte en la “zona caliente” del sistema de transporte de vapor. El receptor 904 se monta en una torre 906.
La re-irradiación puede mantenerse a un nivel menor al 10 % diseñando el receptor para que sea pequeño y también asegurando que la temperatura de superficie exterior del receptor no supera 1400 ºK. La transferencia de potencia se logra por el método de transferencia de vapor antes descrito. La alta temperatura del receptor vaporiza el fluido de transferencia de sodio y el incremento en la presión fuerza naturalmente su flujo al tanque de almacenamiento.
En otra realización, la figura 10 ilustra el sistema de almacenamiento de calor térmico usando energía eólica como la fuente de potencia primaria. El sistema de entrada acoplado a la entrada del sistema de inyección de calor proporciona energía desde potencia eólica. Un parque eólico 1002 puede estar compuesto de un número variable de molinos, dependiendo de su tamaño y condiciones de viento local. La potencia total del parque eólico y el almacenamiento necesarios determinarán el número y capacidad de los módulos de turbina de almacenamiento individuales, recurriendo a los 120 MW(t)-h/día necesarios para calentar el tanque de almacenamiento para una generación de 50 MW(e)-h/día.
En esta realización, la entrada de calor no surge de una fuente de alta temperatura; la salida desde los molinos es eléctrica con una mezcla de tensiones, fases, etc. Por tanto, el tanque de almacenamiento puede calentarse de manera resistiva usando electrodos internos colocados cerca del fondo del tanque de almacenamiento. En un modo de operación, el exceso de potencia producido durante periodos de baja demanda se desviaría al calentamiento del tanque de almacenamiento y disponible cuando se incrementa la demanda. En otro modo de funcionamiento, toda la potencia generada por el viento pasa a través del sistema de almacenamiento de calor térmico. Normalmente, los parques eólicos se equipan con equipo de acondicionamiento de potencia que trata los problemas de calidad de potencia, incluyendo las variaciones en tensión, frecuencia y fase provocadas por cambios en condiciones del viento. Al pasar toda la potencia producida a través del sistema de almacenamiento de calor térmico y generar electricidad desde la energía térmica almacenada desde allí, el equipo de acondicionamiento de potencia puede reducirse o eliminarse.
El sistema de almacenamiento de calor térmico permite la potencia distribuible bajo demanda. Esto permite una operación nocturna y/u operaciones posteriores a la carga. Además, ya que el tanque de almacenamiento tiene una temperatura en su interior que se mantiene sobre 750 ºC, por ejemplo, 800 ºC, permitiendo la generación de electricidad de ciclo Brayton, la eficacia de generación se incrementa desde aproximadamente 33 % para turbinas de vapor a aproximadamente 44 % para turbinas de gas. La corriente de aire de único paso abierta reduce/elimina la necesidad de enfriamiento por agua, lo que puede ser un factor importante en áreas con una baja disponibilidad de agua.
El sistema de almacenamiento de calor térmico tiene un número menor de partes del sistema que el estado típico de la técnica debido a la eliminación de un segundo tanque, bombas y conductos. Esto reduce los requisitos de equipo del sistema y se asocia con unos costes menores en las áreas de capital, mantenimiento y funcionamiento.
