Procedimiento para producir rifomicina Bcaracterizado porque comprende el fermentar una cepa de Streptomyces mediterranei en condiciones aeróbicas sumergidas en un medio nutriente conteniendo una fuente de nitrógeno orgánicouna fuente de carbono asimilablesales minerales y una ayuda de la clase consistente en ácidos barbitúricos de la fórmula **(Ver fórmula)** en que R y R1 son miembros de la clase consistente en hidrógenoradicales bajos de alquiloradicales bajos de alquenilo y radicales de arilo mononucleares carbocíclicosX es un miembro de la clase consistente en oxígeno y azufre y las sales de metales alcalinos de los mismospor lo que se fomenta la formación de rifomicina B y se inhibe la formación de las otras fracciones de rifomicina.
